Knife painting art

Painting has many styles - Simple finger painting, oil painting, crisp water-colour painting, kind of 3D nib painting, pen sketching… Well, let's take a look at a very unique and eloquently skilled way of painting: knife painting

When I say knife (for those of you who aren't aware) it is not the cutlery I'm mentioning that you tear meat (or veggies) with to chow down, but rather the painting knife which are used by artists as tools to paint on canvas, that looks a lot like a thin trowel, garden spade or a slim cake server with flexible metal (preferably steel) blade.

Here are the knives used:

Knife painting is a form of art with layers of paints patted on top of other base paints using the painting "knives" that mix acrylic or oil paints and then dab the colours on the canvas to paint a pretty picture. Different strokes give different results… Each style of colouring will give you different designs… There are techniques to how you apply the paint and how you pull the knife away in order to obtain the desired pattern...

These are the various types of painting knives from tiny sharp diamond shaped knife to large trowel-like blunt tip knife, however they are all different from a palette knife that is used for mixing colours, or even as frosting spatula… Watch out for  the smell of turpentine and that paint flake in your cake!

Bright with a bit of crisp edge, you can clearly see that the painting itself is quite abstract with chunky paint strokes/dabs and bold colours… Quite an interesting style of painting in my opinion. And it's not even a new found style, as a matter of fact it is dated way back to 15th century when famous impressionists and painters like Titian, Courbet, Frans Hals started the trend.

Check out videos by Ahuva Shweiki, she is an extremely talented and expert knife painter who gives step-wise instructions on how to paint roses with a painting knife as she demonstrates by creating magnificent pieces. This lady is REALLY good at what she does… Watch this one...

Fabulous isn't it? There are other videos by Ahuva painting such pretty roses with her knives and giving clear instructions on how she does them.

Well then folks, I hope you art lovers had fun knowing about this if you didn't know from before or enjoyed watching the video anyway if you did.

I'll post more on other forms of art and style… Until next time,
Have fun :)

Love always,
