DIY: Pearl and Pins Necklace

So, here is another DIY of Tom Binns necklaces.

Tom Binns necklaces was THE BEST. They are well crafted pure art. But every art has its price unfortunately and Tom Binns necklaces... Sheesh! I could literally live for three months on that much money!!! Well, we can't buy them unless we are rich but who said we cannot imitate and make them ourselves??? ;)

Here is the original one:

Yup, it is pretty much how it seems. It is two strands of pearls and golden safety pins… Lots and lots of safety pins. And that is it… Seriously, that literally is it!

So, instead of buying one from Tom Binns for 1000s of dollars (or pounds) I decided to just make one of my own ;)

Here we go…

First of all, you'd need small golden safety pins, a lot of them...

…and some pearls.

Use a transparent plastic tube string or a normal white thread and insert the pearls one by one. Measure out enough to make a collar necklace.

Now, once the pearls are all threaded, it is time to fasten the ends. I didn't have proper necklace end gears and jewellery making tools so, I improvised. First I used some spare chains available from other necklaces and tied it at one end of the pearls. And then on the other end, fastened a safety pin and tied it with the string. Clever eh! ;) :p

This is what they ended up as. This way it is as easy to put on and take off as an oversized tee-shirt :) Well, now you know an easy way to make pearl necklaces.

Time for incorporating the pins in the pearl necklace. Start putting them in one by one how ever you prefer. I put one pin at each gap, and then added some on top of them to either hang loose or connect other pins together. Keep doing it till you are fairly happy… After all it is yours to keep and you who will show it off to your friends ;)

And that's it...

Wasn't that simple???

All my items were from eBay:
